Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to keep. “Browser storage” (local storage) is similar, but its contents are never sent to the server. All of the items below are set by CodeLA itself (first-party). No other company can read them.
Cookies
| Name | Purpose | Set | Expires | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
sessionid | Keeps you signed in. It holds a random session key; the session itself is stored on the server. | When you sign in. | 14 days, or until you sign out. | Strictly necessary |
csrftoken | Security: proves that a form was sent from this site and not forged by another website (cross-site request forgery protection). | When you open a page with a form, such as sign-in. | 364 days (about a year). | Strictly necessary |
messages | Carries a one-time notice, such as “Saved”, to the next page you see. | Only after an action that shows a notice. | Deleted as soon as the notice is shown. | Strictly necessary |
The sign-in cookie cannot be read by scripts on the page. All cookies are sent only over secure (HTTPS) connections. Cookies are only ever sent back to this website, and your browser doesn’t attach them to requests that other websites make to this site in the background.
Browser storage
| Key | Purpose | Set | Kept | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
theme | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. | Only when you press the theme button. | Until you clear your browser’s site data. | Your own setting |
sidebar | Remembers whether you collapsed the side menu. | Only when you collapse or expand the side menu. | Until you clear your browser’s site data. | Your own setting |
These values stay on your device and are never sent to the server. Until you choose, the site uses its default theme.
What we don’t use
- No analytics or statistics cookies.
- No advertising, tracking or social-media cookies.
- No third-party cookies: there are no embedded videos, maps, fonts, chat widgets or scripts from other companies.
Why there is no cookie banner
Under the EU ePrivacy Directive (Article 5(3)), the UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and similar laws, a website must ask for consent before storing information on your device, unless that storage is strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for.
Everything listed above falls under that exception: the cookies keep you signed in, keep forms secure and show a notice after an action you took, and the browser storage only remembers display choices you make yourself by pressing a button. Because nothing is used for tracking, statistics or advertising, there is nothing to consent to, so we don’t show a banner. This page tells you about them instead.
If CodeLA ever adds analytics, embedded content or anything else that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first, before it is set, and update this page.
Controlling cookies
You can see and delete cookies and site data in your browser’s settings. Deleting them signs you out and resets your theme choice. If you block all cookies for this site, you won’t be able to sign in, because signing in depends on the session cookie.
Changes
We update this page whenever the cookies or storage the site uses change. For questions, contact the organiser of CodeLA as described on the contact page. More about how we handle data is in the privacy policy.
